Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

2011 Deseret News 10K Finish Line.
Dang - missed my goal by 4 seconds!

Whoosh - it's hot & windy today! Woke up late and needed to run an errand before running, so decided to park my car on the corner of 11th avenue & bonneville and start my run from there. Mentally that gave me a boost because I knew I wouldn't have to run the last .6 mile uphill in the hot sun to my house (especially nice since I started running after 10 am). Since I started closer to city creek I decided to run further up the canyon and went to picnic area 20, which I'm guessing is about 4.25 miles from the gate.  Quite nice in city creek.- on the way down I met a lady named Maryanne at one of the water fountains and talked with her for a couple minutes. Then I saw my friend Mary and talked with her for a couple minutes. It was nice talking, but I stiffened up and had to hobble-run for a few minutes until I loosened back up!!  Very nice & very enjoyable run today.  :)

Sounds like a nice run in city creek canyon. I run up there with my sister any chance I get. It looks like you work at EIHG.

It's nice to break up your run with a little socializing. Too bad it brings on stiffness.

Kam - I do love my runs up city creek! And, yes, I do work in the EIHG; those stairs provide a good workout! Are you affiliated with the EIHG researchers?

April - thanks. My running has been pretty spotty this summer, so it felt good to finally get in a good long run!

Carolyn - I like socializing, but I think I felt the stiffness mostly because I was running down a steep hill at the time!
